Some tracks don't allow spikes more than 1/8 inch, so you should get several types in case you need to change for races.

How To Develop A Strength Training Program To Run Faster!

by Steve Preston ---- December 06, 2005

Whether you are a sprinter, middle distance, or long distance runner, a properly executed strength training program will be the key to improving your running times.

If you鈥檙e a runner, you MUST strength train correctly. Running for distance, being aerobic in nature, will begin to break down good muscle tissue. You need a strength training program that will keep the muscle you have, and ultimately to build more muscle, that will carry over to faster running times.

Here are some tips to help you develop a strength training program exclusively for runners.

1. Emphasize Your Running Muscles

You should train all of your muscles thoroughly in any strength training program. The body works as a unit. Never neglect body parts, or favor other body parts simply because you like to train them. Give all of your muscles attention, but emphasize the ones that pertain to your sport the most. The running muscles, in order of importance are: Buttocks, Thighs, Calves, Shoulders, Chest, Back and Arms. When you design a full-body workout for running, try to work the muscles in this same order.

2. Train With Full-Body Workouts

Unless you鈥檙e a bodybuilder, you should train the full body with each workout. A bodybuilder who is trying to gain a lot of muscle would split their routine in order to work more thoroughly on each body part. An athlete should use strength training as a means to improve sports performance. A full body routine properly addresses the needs of an athlete.

3. Train the Tibialis Anterior

The tibialis anterior is the muscle on the front of the shin. By working on this muscle, you keep a balance with the calves ie. the soleus and gastrocnemius muscles. You need to keep opposing muscles in balance to maximize performance and minimize injuries. The tibialis anterior should also be developed to minimize shin splints. You can perform a foot flexion exercise to work on the T. A. muscle. If you鈥檙e serious about running and don鈥檛 have access to a foot flexion machine, I鈥檇 suggest you get one.

4. Emphasize Your Buttocks Exercise

If you were asked to name the fastest land animals, you might say a cheetah, or an ostrich. The interesting thing about these animals that run so fast, is that they have skinny legs, but very well developed hinds (buttocks). The same with humans. Any runner, sprinter, middle, or long distance, should emphasize exercises that work on the buttocks area. If you have access to a Reverse Hyperextension machine you can work the area directly, with complete safety. If you don鈥檛 have one, a barbell full squat with work just fine.

5. Strength Train More Intensely Than You Run

When you strength train for running, you must strive to perform a set until you can no longer complete another repetition in perfect form. Obviously, you don鈥檛 run until you drop. That would be counter-productive, and dangerous. Strength training is completely different and should be treated as such. By strength training a muscle to the point of momentary muscular failure, you set the stage for rapid strength gains in the muscle.

6. Strength Train Slowly To Run Faster

Any strength training exercise should be performed slowly and deliberately. This takes the momentum out of the exercise, and therefore maximizes the amount of muscle fibers that are stimulated. A proper cadence when strength training should be about 2 seconds to lift the weight (when you contract the muscle) and at least 4 seconds to lower the weight (lengthen the muscle).

7. Add Weight or Repetitions Whenever Possible

It is so important for runners to try to add weight to an exercise as often as possible, or keep the weight the same and add repetitions whenever possible. This forces the muscles to adapt by increasing in strength. Runners need to do this because the very nature of frequent long runs catabolizes muscle tissue. Strength training in a progressive fashion will help preserve muscle, and ideally, add more muscle and strength to run faster, longer.

What muscles are needed to build in order to become a faster sprinter?
resistance training with the leg muscles is a very good way to develope speed. Add weight to your ankles while running and or walking .
don't use ankle weights - they will put too much strain on your knees because the weights at the bottom of your legs makes you jerk the weight to lift it and the knees take a beating - I played football in college and I ran a 4.6 40 yards dash at 5'8" and 195 pounds - all I ever did for conditioning was doing sprints in the pool and running hills - the pool running gives your body natural resistance so you will not hurt yourself - if you sprint in the pool for 20-30 minutes, you will be exhausted - and running hills develops fast twitch muscles fibers that are crucial to trying to build up your speed - it will help develop explosive power from your legs which will make you a faster runner - good luckWhat muscles are needed to build in order to become a faster sprinter?
Other than the obvious strength training, sprinting training and explosive energy training needed... one thing that has been shown to improve speed is flexibility.

So- in addition to all the major muscle groups that other people will post for you- don't skimp on flexibility. Do a lot of stretching. it's not to reduce injuries- but it actually improves your speed.
glutes, hamstrings, gastronemeus- lunges are a good exercise for sprinters. All muscles contribute in sprinting.

What does it take to be a Professional Sprinter in Track?

im in the 9th grade starting in September and ive been wanting to be a professional sprinter for about a year so i train like 3-6 days a week to become one,

what muscles do you need? like what arm muscles? and all that? also what workouts on the track should i be doing to get a faster 100meterWhat does it take to be a Professional Sprinter in Track?
You should join a running club or your high school track team. To go professional you need a lot of talent and hard work.
The fact is that most will never be a pro. Aim a little bit lower first. Look forward to beating your high school competition and then if you beat them good, go to the national level and then go to college and do the same, blow about the collegiate NCAA by a long shot and try and find an agent. What does it take to be a Professional Sprinter in Track?
Work out a lot and eat healthy. To win you need good sized muscles, leg muscles that is. If you try every day, you'll eventually become professional.

What UK license required to drive Mercedes Sprinter LWB with 1.5tonne load inside?

Hello all!!! Will be buying a Sprinter LWB van and need to know if I need to upgrade my UK driving license issued in 2006 which allows me to drive up to category B1?What UK license required to drive Mercedes Sprinter LWB with 1.5tonne load inside?
B1

Motor tricycles, quadricycles and three or four wheeled vehicles with an unladen weight no more than 550 kg

Not much help with a van!

Unless you have taken the extra test for a heavy traier you have this -

B

Motor vehicles with a MAM of up to 3,500 kg, no more than eight passenger seats, with or without a trailer - weighing no more than 750 kg.

So if the Sprinter has a maximum authorised mass (van with full load) less than 3500 kgs then you can drive it. If it is over 3500kgs you need a

C1

Vehicles weighing between 3,500 kg and 7,500 kg, with or without a trailer - weighing no more than 750 kg which requires a small lorry test which I guess you have not done or you would not be asking this.

It is possible to get a Sprinter which is over 3500kgs, if it is, it will be fitted with a Tachograph device which must be used - not by you though as you could not drive such a vehicleWhat UK license required to drive Mercedes Sprinter LWB with 1.5tonne load inside?

What are some exercises to do to become a faster sprinter?

i have been told that i am a fast runner already but i want to try out for basketball and track team next year and be a faster runner. any exercises to do that DO NOT require a weight room or equipment. just looking for some drills or exercises that will improve speed by basketball season.

thanks :-)What are some exercises to do to become a faster sprinter?
I am a track runner. Here are things we do...

Run up hills to build strength to push forward.

Jog with weights to build strength also

You can also do leg squats to build strength.

There are lots of things you can do. Those are the main things that helped meWhat are some exercises to do to become a faster sprinter?
Running long distance will actually help with your sprints. Also, sprint 100 yards then jog 50, then sprint 100 then 50 again. %26lt;--do this for as long as you can, but you need to push yourself

Should a sprinter with (2) artificial legs be allowed in the Olympics?

A FAST South African sprinter, double amputee from below both his knee joints, was not allowed into the Olympics by the IOC today. They ruled he had an "advantage" over able-bodies with his Titanium prosthetics. Is this right, or did it just show how out of touch the Olympics is when they could have made a great example of inclusion?Should a sprinter with (2) artificial legs be allowed in the Olympics?
He should be allowed in if anything the prosthetics would be a disadvantage. They just don't want to see all the able bodied doped up runners get shown up by an amputee.
If you wighted up the possible advantages

and all disadvantages I still think there would be more disadvantages.

But Paralympic athletes have great sporting ability.

it takes more energy for amputees to run and they are not as stable as nature feet.Should a sprinter with (2) artificial legs be allowed in the Olympics?
it would seem that they have an advantage, because they dont have muscle fatigue or soreness in the legs. but that means that their arms would be working harder to lift the legs.

another down side is that their reaction time to the ground is poor, because there is no nerves in a artificial leg.
If the IOC rules that he has a competitive advantage, then he shouldn't be allowed to compete.

How is the IOC "out of touch?" Is it becoming more common for great sprinters to have prosthetics and the IOC is refusing to acknowledge this growing trend in the world?

I realize this is a special case. This guy is not a juicer. He didn't intentionally lose his legs so that he could get prosthetics. But that still doesn't mean he should be in the Olympics.Should a sprinter with (2) artificial legs be allowed in the Olympics?
Yes. That removed the last honor, if any, that was left in the Olympics.
There's an Olympics for disabled athletes for a reason (and what evidence is there to suggest that all able-bodied runners are "doped up", as opposed to disabled runners?).
Maybe. The legs do seem to be an advantage because amputees legs do not have aches and pains like other atheletes. However, there will alway be prejudice.

    :)
    no

What drills should I be doing to become a faster sprinter?

My 100m is 13 seconds and I want it to be faster. What drills should I be doing everyday to drop a second or so in a week or 2? Right now I'm lifting weights to get my leg muscles stronger and arms. I do this everynight 5-7 times a weekWhat drills should I be doing to become a faster sprinter?
Practice coming out of the blocks. And a ton of 100M and 200M sprints would help. Lunges and squats would help. You should also eat healthier and try to lose some weight, if you have any to lose. Try running a long distance run every week for more stamina, and at least 1-2 miles every day. What drills should I be doing to become a faster sprinter?
you're not gonna drop a second in 1 week no matter what you do and lifting weights that many times a week isn't going to help if you aren't doing the right exercises.

You also need to make sure your technique is correct.

Try to integrate these drills into your workout program

High Knees: 10 meters - jog - 10 meters - rest Sprint 10 meters concentrating on raising knees as higher than normal. Jog for 10 meters and then sprint for 10 meters and rest.

Fast Knee Pick Ups: 10 meters - jog - 10 meters - rest Jogging on the spot raise your knees to waist height while emphasizing arm action. Move forward 10 meters with this action concentrating on the number of ground contacts rather than how fast you cover the distance.

Flicks: 10 meters - jog - 10 meters - rest While sprinting over 10 meters concentrate on flicking your heels up to touch your butt.

Leg Speed: 60 meters This is a normal sprint over 60 meters except all of your focus should be on your legs.

High Hops: 3 x 40 meters Bound from one foot to the other.

Elbow Drive: 40 meters Sprint for 40 meters concentrating on driving your elbow in a straight line. Keep your elbows flexed at right angles while keeping your arms relaxed.

Remember to recover fully between drills.

I want to find out how I can get a job driving a Sprinter Van, and do I have to have a CDL to drive one OTR?

Do I need a CDL to drive a Sprinter Cross country doing freight? I'm also 19 years old.I want to find out how I can get a job driving a Sprinter Van, and do I have to have a CDL to drive one OTR?
You will only need a CDL if the GVWR of the van is over 26,000 pounds. Most sprinters fall well under that. You do need a Medical Exam Certificate if traveling interstate and the van is over 10,000.

  • How do i make the transition from a 100m sprinter to long distance runner?

i am very fast when it come to short sprints but i almost pass out in long distance runs. When i try to practice long distance i can't keep a slow pace and i end up sprinting and then can't go anymore. Is there anything i can do to learn to run a long run, like jumping rope, that helped me in sprinting? thanks. How do i make the transition from a 100m sprinter to long distance runner?
YOu simply have to discipline yourself and understand that you have a specific amount of energy that you can use to sprint 800m or you can use to cover a longer distance like 5k. Consider your store of energy as a ball of string. The faster you run, the faster the string unwinds, the slower you run the slower the string unwinds.

Jumping rope and hefting the iron won't help much in the longer runs, although I recommend you continue to do mild upper body strengthening.

My suggestion is this: LEARN TO KEEP A SLOWER PACE. You see, running is not a sport meant to drive your body 100% every time you slip on the Sauconys, spikes, or NB.

Start today: Set your mind to the fact that you will do 4 laps today at a comfortable pace. For ease of calculation, let's do an 8-minute mile. That's 2 minutes a lap, 1 minute per 220m, 30 seconds for 110 m.

Be scientific and determined... YOu will really learn to enjoy the wonderful excitement of distance running.
You Just Need to find A Pace and Keep it. Start small (3k) and work your way yp to 5k-%26gt;10kHow do i make the transition from a 100m sprinter to long distance runner?
longer training sessions with longer distances like 1500m's to practice the pace then build up to longer distances as you get more used to it
Why can't you keep a slow pace? I know it is easy to run fast, at least for a while and then you have used up your energy and can not run any more. Run at the back of the group until you find a pace that you can handle. If you are in practice and not racing run where you are able to talk. If you can not talk you are in oxygen debt and that is not training aerobic. Nothing is going to help running long distance, but running long distance. How do i make the transition from a 100m sprinter to long distance runner?
create a path in the streets with a reasonable amount of time to accomplish. start out with 4 miles then procced as you advance. don't add on the miles too fast though. whatever the speed you choose to go, try maintaining it. don't stop and walk for any reason. in the stop lights, run in place. you'll get use to it, eventually. [i'm personally trying to become faster in the 400m sprint, i'm a distance runner. so, i don't get tired--but i can't speed up either] good luck.
practice running more distance when you run keep it in your mind that you have a couple miles left %26amp; if you sprint them all you will be dead by the second lap
u should start by jogging 6 miles EVERYDAY to help ur endurance......that's wat u need help in.

    luckz 4rm tha 4x100,4x200,4x400,and 400m runner

    Mid-Distance all day everyday...
Go out for something like a 3km run to sart off with at a pace of 4min a km. You can go onto longer distances latter on.

How to start a sprinter after replacing the intake manifold?

i replaced the intake manifold, and am having trouble getting the engine started. I removed the fuel line off the top of the fuel filter and used a blow gun to blow fuel out the line. I still can't seem to get the engine started. it cranks, but to no prevailHow to start a sprinter after replacing the intake manifold?
Sounds like the timing is off. Rotate the engine so the #1 cylinder is top dead center on the compression stroke and then check the alignment of the distributor rotor to the #1 plug wire.

If you're within at least 15 degrees either side of the proper timing then it should at least fire and try to start or run rough until you adjust the timing while running.

    Good Luck!

How do you find the average speed of a sprinter from a velocity-time graph?

I am asked to find the AVERAGE speed of an athlete and values for velocity and time are given in a velocity-time graph how do I find the AVERAGE speed, average.

Thanks for your helpHow do you find the average speed of a sprinter from a velocity-time graph?
If there are any negative regions of the graph, immediately give them a flip to positive. That is how you make your velocity vs time graph be a speed vs time graph.

Then, find the AREA under the curve until the horizontal axis. This "area" represents total distance travelled.

Now, divide that total distance travelled by the time it takes to travel it.

What machines at the gym or workouts at the gym male you a faster sprinter?

Almost all muscle groups are used in sprinting, you can't just pick a few exercises to do and expect to get better.

What is the ideal weight for me if I want to be a better sprinter?

Ok I'm currently 5'11 and 145, reasonably lean and muscular but is this the best size for sprinting? Some say I am too heavy and that I need to lose weight, but I always thought the really muscular guys were better because of their power and strength to accelerate and maintain speed. Although Usain bolt is tall and skinny but muscular. So what is the ideal size and weight? What is the ideal weight for me if I want to be a better sprinter?
Drink a lot of water (and I mean a LOT) of water, eat a balanced diet, and train hard. Your body will find its proper form. Consider: at some point did a group of dudes get together and decide that this is what a gymnast will look like, and that is what a wrestler's physique should be, or did these athletes train in ways that made them more effective at their chosen sport and end up with a build that was both capable of competition and associated with that sport? What is the ideal weight for me if I want to be a better sprinter?
You are not too heavy, and your idea weight is what you weigh if you eat healthy and exercise.

Height/weight charts are not a guide to what you should weigh.

It takes strength to sprint, which is why all elite sprinters lift weights and do exercises to improve their strength.

Some sprinters look bulkier than others, and some look lean, but they are all strong.

People have different shapes they are not just a lineal measurement, meaning the size of your chest or your width is different so two people of the same height should not have the same weight.

Do not try to lose weight it will make you weaker. What is the ideal weight for me if I want to be a better sprinter?
Very good sprinters come in all shapes, sizes and, weight. The ideal weight for you is the weight you are at when you set a personal record (PR). All of your focus then centers around the things you did to reach that level of performance.

Wait at least 2.5 hours after eating before training or racing, this will prevent the felling of nausea during and after practices and when performing in competitions.

Two days before a meet, do very light practices and increase the fluids and salt in your diet. The fluids and salt helps you stay hydrated and is an important element in conducting electrical impulses to your muscles for proficient performances.

A better 100m run 鈥?form and technique will get you there.

I think the key to running in any race well is to stretch your leg muscles first, especially the front and back part of the thigh for sprinters. Then take a warm up jog around the track, focus on getting your legs to feel loose. On the back stretch of the track focus on lifting your knees in a comfortable jog and as you come around the second curve, focus on pumping your arms around it.

If you want to be better than most sprinters then you must understand this concept, perfecting your technique in sprinting will improve your speed. To measure your progress, set your objective on bettering your best, not on beating someone in particular.

There are three phases to sprinting the 100, they are; the start, the first 60 and, the last 40.

    The Start:

Standing Starts: If you are taking a standing start do this.

1.) Place one leg out in front of the other.

2.) If your right foot is out front, hold your right hand and arm behind you and set your left arm and hand in front of you. Throw your right arm forward and left arm back to start.

3.) Do the reverse of 2, if your left foot is forward.

4.) Take a deep breath and hold it until the gun goes off. Make no wasted motions moving forward.

Starting Block Position: If you are down on one knee at the start, with or without starting blocks, do this.

1.) Get into the set position by placing both hands just behind the starting line. Have your hands open and have your thumbs facing each other.

2.) When the starter says set, raise your hips to where it feels like it is shooting a straight line to the finish line. This is very important; never raise your hips all the way up.

3.) When you feel comfortable in this position, take a deep breath and hold it until the gun goes off. If you are in blocks, push out with both feet, not just one.

4.) Important! When the gun goes off which hand should come up first? If your right knee is up when you get into the starting block position, then your right hand comes up first and your left hand moves backwards.

5.) The reverse is true for number 4, if your left knee is up, then left hand is up first.

    The First 60:

Think of yourself as coming out of the start like a rocket being fired at a 45 degree angle. You want to hold that angle for about 10m out with your head still looking down. There is not much thinking going on at this point.

Once you become erect in running posture, focus on being relaxed while running. You do this by relaxing your shoulders, swinging your arms in a straight line, having your hands come up towards the side of your face, keeping your shoulders from moving back and forth and, lifting your knees as high as possible. Your mind is clear at this time, so you can think about this as you run for the next 50m.

    The Last 40:

This is where the good separate from the not as good. Holding top speed past this point takes technique. If you are beginning to feel stiff and start to jerk at this point, you have not been relaxed enough in your running. You will go no faster.

If you are feeling comfortable at this point and want to shift into a faster speed do this. Open your hands wide open. Hold your elbows at about a stiff 45 degrees and begin pumping your elbows to the back harder and faster while staying relaxed. Your hands should come up to the sides of your head. Do not think about your legs at all, at this point, because the faster you move your arms back, your legs will automatically follow. This does not work the other way around, think of moving your legs faster to run faster 鈥?will not work while running at top speed. Slowing down before the finish line will cost you in this race - so don't.

To condition yourself for the 100m, try running 150m running at about 85 percent of your top speed. Focus on your form, breath with your mouth and, push the air in and out of your body with your stomach.

Can only using an euliptical or however you spell it make you a faster sprinter?

Eulipticals are like standing stationary bikes where you run and you feet are like in "pedals" you stand while doing this. Mine has different resistance levels. Also what muscles do there excersise. Oh almost forgot your hands are on bars that move so they move. Can only using an euliptical or however you spell it make you a faster sprinter?
You can't build fast twitch fibers by running on an elliptical , only by sprinting, adn you can't do that on an elliptical. It works the same muscles you use when running really, but without the impactCan only using an euliptical or however you spell it make you a faster sprinter?

What if we go over state lines? Is a medical card required? Our company is looking to purchase a Dodge Sprinter. Are there special drivers licenses required to drive?
No special license required. If used for business, IE: hauling across state lines, then you do need a US DOT number and the driver does need a DOT medical card and must belong to a drug screening consortium, Have a DOT qualified driver file at main office etc. That's just stuff that must be done to qualify for the US DOT number. Our company is looking to purchase a Dodge Sprinter. Are there special drivers licenses required to drive?
In most states, any company vehicle used for business requires a "for hire" endorsement on the driver's license. And insurance, of course. My "for hire" endorsement (Tennessee) permits me to drive vehicles weighing up to 26,000 lbs--I never have seen a load that heavy in a 26' box truck, though it's theoretically possible. The Sprinter is far smaller than that. Unless you're stacking it floor to ceiling with lead, no additional special license is required. Our company is looking to purchase a Dodge Sprinter. Are there special drivers licenses required to drive?
    No.

Tips for making the track team as a sprinter?

I am currently in the 8th grade and I have no prior experience in this so I want to start training now so I'll be ready to make the team for my freshman year. Please give me any tips you might have. Thanks.Tips for making the track team as a sprinter?
First of all, you shouldn't be taking ANY supplements in 8th grade. Anything you put into your body in the middle of your growth period could severely impede your natural growth. So, DON'T go taking iron supplements.

If you want to make the team, just start running. Start by running a mile at race-pace 3 times a week. On the days you're not running your mile, run intervals on a track (jog the corners, sprint the straights) for 8 laps or run bleachers or run up-and-back's on a football field (sprint up field 10 yards, jog back, sprint 20 yards, jog back, sprint 30 yards, jog back, etc, etc until you're sprinting the entire field and jogging back). The main thing is to get used to running and get your lungs in shape.Tips for making the track team as a sprinter?
I was talking to a world-class runner last summer about what I could do to be successful at the 800m. He told me to have a good distance background (cross country) and do weight training (I do push ups and sit ups almost daily). Also, my coaches have told me to take iron supplements, as runners (especially females) tend to be iron deficient. It can make a huge difference! Talk to the coaches and see if they have any advice for you!

How to become a good sprinter?

    I am a 14 year old girl, I'm 5'3 and I love running.

I usually stick to the long distance running, 'cause I have a really good endurance and stuff, but I have never really been a good sprinter. I have won 1st place at all of my city meets this year for xcountry(there was only 2), and I run the 800m and 1500m for track. Next year I really want to be able to make the 100m relay team or at least be able to improve my sprinting. Anybody have any suggestions? How to become a good sprinter?
Running Xcountry and running Sprints are almost two completely different worlds. The way you run, aggressiveness, and training varies. I'm a sprinter and i usually just work out my legs (calves, thighs, ect.) and run a lot. You being an endurance runner will help with muscles in your legs. If I were you, i'd stick to Xcountry. But if you want to do sprints badly here's what i suggest:

    Run on your toes

    Eat right

    Work out

    Get help from coaches

    And have dedication

    Good luck
you have to run on your toes to be a sprinter. and while you're running, you kick your butt to go faster. keep your fingers out and together and your hands should go up and down by your side to cut the air.How to become a good sprinter?
If you have the ability to be a good middle distance runner you should improve those events. You can get faster, but do you know if you have the muscles to be a short sprinter? To develop sprint speed you need to lift weights, do plyometric exercises, run speed intervals. These work outs will also help your middle distance events. Run easy distance 3 days per week. Lift and do plyometrics 2 days per week, do intervals 1 day, and rest 1 day. The intervals can be from 200 to 800 meters, you can do something different each week, or do a ladder or step up step down work out. Run 4x800 with 1 minute rest; 6x400 with 2 minute rest; 8x200 with 2 minute rest. Do one of these not all of them at one time. You can mix it up and do 200,400,800, 400, 200, walk the distance for the rest. These workouts are to keep your leg speed while you are lifting and doing weights, and plyometrics. In the fall you should run cross country. Do some time trials to see how you are progressing.
I am relly the opposite of that but I got better at sprinting just by runing around my house as fast as I can,And tried to get a better time every time. I hope this helps a bit.How to become a good sprinter?
while running try to kick ur butt with the heel of your foot....not to hard and do some laps then try taking longer strides to increase your speed

  • What faults does the Mercedes 300 series Sprinter van have?

I am thinking of buying a 309/310/311 (any help on the significance of these numbers would be appreciated). I need to be able to stand up inside (I am 1m 83cm tall) as I want to use it for weekends away. I would like an automatic, but they seem rare. What faults does the Mercedes 300 series Sprinter van have?
The only fault I can think of if it is a white van is the driver.
I dont really know of any faults other than they put the dodge name on them.Everything i have heard about them is all positive. They are versatile and easy to drive 23 miles to the gallon. You do know that they are a diesel engine dont you?I would buy one i like them except for the dodge name on them. What faults does the Mercedes 300 series Sprinter van have?
I used to work for a main dealer - the numbers refer to the horsepower go for the 311 as they are far more common when it comes to business users so parts are easier to get. They come in a variety of lengths %26amp; roof heights if it was me I would go for a long wheel base with high roof model (again the most popular) As long as the van has a service history you should be ok just make sure you get a service when the service indicator tells you too. Engines %26amp; gearboxes are reliable but clutches burn out very quickly if you try to pull away in wrong gear - gear cables unclipping are prone to stop you getting gears but are an easy fix. Get brake pads changed at first sign of warning light to prevent them scoring disks (200 miles max) If you intend keeping anything valuable in back get extra locks fitted as older vans are easy to break in to by forcing a screw driver down side of handle (Maple do a good slam lock check internet for details) A sprinter will last for many years even the rusty looking ones just seem to go on and on. hope this helps. I have never seen an automatic Also avoid gas conversions as they give a lot of trouble generally
The chassis have been known to split in the middle.I know some one who it happened to, and have heard of others. What faults does the Mercedes 300 series Sprinter van have?
I drive an 06 plate 311 and it runs like a drema with 77k on the clock. Only had one set of pads on it and its a meduim wheelbase high roof configuration. Radio's are a bit naff so i dropped a JVC multi changer into it from my old car and its great to drive. Have driven an automatic with a tiptraonic type box but pretty rare to find second hand in UK. The new shape have a six speed auto, while the 311 i drove in the old style shape (00 - 06) only had 4 speeds im sure. Good luck in your hunt
The first number is the chassis design weight 3= 3000 kg and rest are BHP faults with sprinter are injectors and gearbox plus if you have to replace the clutch you got to buy a dual mass flywheel as well(bloody expensive)as are all merc parts.Dont bother with merc auto box they are crap especially on the vito and sprinter vans

Can a sprinter be ticketed for exceeding the speed limit?

If the cops are watching a school zone for speeders and the speed limit is 5 miles and hour in one area, and a guy comes running past at 10 MPH, can he get ticketed? Can a sprinter be ticketed for exceeding the speed limit?
no. i cant believe u would ask a ques like that. and a school zone would be at least 25 on the road
A ticket is an accusation. A cop can write a ticket for anything. Once the matter is in court, if the accused pleads not guilty and defends on grounds that the speed limit laws apply to motor vehicles, he should prevail unless he is in a country that has traffic laws that applies to pedestrians. Can a sprinter be ticketed for exceeding the speed limit?
Technically, yes, but cops usually won't go to the trouble of ticketing a person exceeding the speed limit by only 5m/h (~8km/h)
I am not sure a traffic ticket could be given to someone on foot. Besides. wouldn't the cop have to catch him first. Can a sprinter be ticketed for exceeding the speed limit?
    thats dangerous!

Personally I can get up to 20MPH...

imagine the carnage I can cause :)
yes they absolutely can, but they probably will not because a judge would throw it out in court. Only exception is if they wouldn't obey a traffic sign as in a red light or stop sign.

My Candy Sprinter electric hobb is stuck on H. How do I turn it off completely?

I dont know what model number it is, it is the dorms. Do not have access to a manual. One of the hobbs is on H and is on at low power. Thanks. My Candy Sprinter electric hobb is stuck on H. How do I turn it off completely?
Demand that it be repaired, it is a fire risk. There should also be a local switch for the whole hob, usually behind the hob and to one side so you don't have to reach across the hob to switch on/off.

Is it possible to win to a sprinter who wears a track spikes shoes when you are just using an ordinary shoes?

If YES prove your answer, if NO please also prove your answer. Is it possible to win to a sprinter who wears a track spikes shoes when you are just using an ordinary shoes?
Yes. I outran 5 guys once in school. I was wearing jeans and Chuck Taylor's. They were all wearing shorts and track shoes. It was a day I will never forget. You should have seen their faces. Is it possible to win to a sprinter who wears a track spikes shoes when you are just using an ordinary shoes?
Find any 11 year old girl in this country, put her in track spikes.

I can beat her in ordinary shoes. I can probably beat her in my dress shoes from work, or even barefoot.

As for why, "See" my answer to your other question (get it, See?)Is it possible to win to a sprinter who wears a track spikes shoes when you are just using an ordinary shoes?
Of course. It is the sprinter's ability to run fast that enables them to win-not whether they have spikes or not. Spikes do help, yes, but if you are better than them you will win even if you don't have spikes. Only buy spikes if you regularly use them or you are instructed to.
Yes, Proof imagine a 30 stonne guy with track spike shoes VS. you. Who would win.

Also sprinting if alot more to do with skill than what shoes you are wearing.

If you and someone else normally draw both wearing track shoes then the other person will probably win but the difference is tiny until you hit professional levels.

How do i become a faster sprinter?

I know it has something to do with Fast-twitch fibres. How do i become a faster sprinter?
What you need to focus on mainly is your technique and style along with stamina and strength.

Good training sessions that arent too long with a varied length of breaks in between runs help build up your stamina.

Gym sessions and curcuit training can help beuild up strength.

Gentle 60% speed runs in which you go for a set distance of about 50m can allow you time to think about your posture.

Are you using your arms fully and driving them all the way forwards and bacwards? The faster and better your arms work, the faster your legs will move.

Are you tall and upright on your toes? This allows for maximum push off and a relaxed sprinting style.

When sprinting the last thing you want to do is feel tense. Warm up well before hand, a gentle jog, a few stretches and drills, before doing easy runs in the lead up before a race or a hard session. Make sure you're fully warmed up and loose.

Hope this few tips help, and good luck in any up and coming races! ^_^How do i become a faster sprinter?
In addition to your regular training, I recommend (if you're not doing so already) taking a high quailty multi-vitamin. It should be a food-based vitamin as sythetic ones do not absorb well into the blood stream. This becomes more and more important as you push your body harder.

I recommend trying Double X by Nutrilite. When I started using it, I noticed a big improvement within a couple of weeks. (And it's endorsed by 100m sprinter, Asafa Powell). You can get more information about it at www.wduever.qhealthbeauty.com

I run the 400 meter and the 200 meter dashes. Times of 50.3 and 22.7. I'm not satisfied with these times. I graduated and I want to train over the summer so I can destroy these PRs and run 48 and at least 22 low for the 200m. Any tips at all that will help me get faster? How can I become a faster sprinter?
I also run the 400 and 200. Doing fly-in workouts really help improve your speed. Go to the track and start half way at the curve jogging and slowly build up your speed. Once you hit the 100 mark you should be at full speed and sprint all out for 40-50 meters. It really improves your acceleration. Also do a lot of bounding. Don't forget these races also take endurance so your gunna have to bust your *** with hard workouts. Goodluck!

Can i become a faster sprinter? Like what should i do to increase my sprinting speed and decrease the 40 yard?

I wanna be running back for football in 10th grade and i lift weights but im not black so im gonna have to work extra hard XD. To increase my speed should i sprint for like 30 minutes a day and also should working my legs out with extremely heavy weights increase my acceleration and speed. Like squats dead lifts and lunges? Can i become a faster sprinter? Like what should i do to increase my sprinting speed and decrease the 40 yard?
    1. Being racist isn't cool dude.

    2. To become faster, you have to build your fast twitch muscles. Yes, you have to do 4-6 reps at your max for the 100-200 meters. For the 400 meters, you have to do 6-8 reps at your max. In addition to your weights, do sprint repeats. You could get a simple training program for this just simply typing, for example, "100 meter training" on google. Something should pop up. Some examples of repeats include 4 X 60s, 6 X 50s, 4 X 100s at "flying" pace (max pace). Also, don't put on extra bulk by eating 4000 calories, even if you peaked and want to become stronger. Bulk is murder. Good Luck!

thank you.How many miles should a sprinter run other day?
At least 3 miles. Double day workouts aren't bad just don't forget your stretching and ice so you won't be aflicted with the oh-so common shin splints and swelling. How many miles should a sprinter run other day?
    zero

jogging and running miles do nothing to help sprinting.

if you want to be fast train fast.

look up top track coachs brooke jhonson or charlie francisHow many miles should a sprinter run other day?
That all depends on what you are training for and when your race will be. If you are just staying in shape for next season, don't over-train or hurt yourself, make it fun. Run some uphill sprint intervals or ladders.

Can you become a professional sprinter if you start at age 14?

Of course you can. All you need to do is train hard. You should find an athletics coach in your area who is willing to coach you. The coach should already have a group of runners that he trains. Make sure that the people that he trains are around the same age as you and the same ability. Another step is to join a local athletics club, this will help you immensely, during the summer most clubs have meets once per week. Competing in these will help you improve and give you encouragement to keep training hard so you can improve on your times.

Finding a coach or joining a running club will put you on the right track to becoming a good athlete. Good luck! Can you become a professional sprinter if you start at age 14?

Could anyone please tell me how to do proper arm swing of a sprinter?

You could provide pictures or videos, or any brief explanation. The one who explains best will be the best answer.

I am not asking this not because I don't know how to arm swing properly like a real sprinter, I just want to know if the information I had got is correct,Could anyone please tell me how to do proper arm swing of a sprinter?
Hello William See: Hope you're having a great day! It sounds like you need this information to pass on to the younger, less experienced sprinters. I could be wrong! I know when I first started coaching track, I would ask other coaches, compared notes, over and over, just to make sure I was right. Oh well, let's talk about the proper arm swing!!

Keep your arms at a 90掳 angle, at the elbow, at all times-- all the power in your upper body comes from the shoulders. Your hands should come up NO higher than your eyes. One trick I've learned over the years, when practicing your arms swing, pull your pockets out, then slap them when you are practicing your arms swing, this will get you or your students used to hitting the proper point every time! Now sprinting--- your arms and legs stay in rhythm, this means if your front leg is up at a 45掳 angle, then your opposite arm is back at a 45掳 angle--- your front leg goes up at a 90掳 angle, then the opposite arm is back at a 90掳 angle--- stay in rhythm! Well William See that's about all I can tell you about the arm swing. Hope I've helped you and not wasted your time.

One more thing I liked say, I have answers (on Yahoo Answers) about sprinting I go the whole 9 yards for the young runners--- check them out and compare!

    PEACE
Stand up straight, let your shoulder sag or relax.

Keep your elbows at 90 degrees, and swing your arms straight front to back, not across your body.

Bring your hands up high enough in the front so you can see them, but not higher than your chin, drive your arms back, not down.

In the back the hands should be about even with your hip or back pockets if you were wearing pants with pockets.

Try to keep your hands relaxed, don't make a fist, if you are tight you will fatigue and tire sooner than if you stay relaxed in your upper body.

Everyone is a little different but that is the basics and you can practice this while doing strides and intervals so that you can do it in a race.Could anyone please tell me how to do proper arm swing of a sprinter?
As recently a lot of young and old sprinters wondering how they can improve their swing mechanics. As a sprinter you should be aware that the arms very important to make sure that you run as fast as possible. The arms play an important role in your overall development sprint. Without proper mechanical arm, and is more or less do yourself a disservice. But in this article to learn proper arm swing mechanics needed For a faster sprint times.
Track sprint speed is a result of good sprinting technique coupled with sound endurance running.

What are good training methods to do after school to be a faster short length sprinter?

Anything that has to do with getting faster. What are good training methods to do after school to be a faster short length sprinter?
this might sound a little funny, but you want to work, and build muscles that you dont think about that can help. for example, walking backwards helps muscles in the back of your legs that usually dont get attention, also for sprinting, work out your arms, the faster you pump the faster you get! What are good training methods to do after school to be a faster short length sprinter?
Also another way to work muscles you dont normally use is swimming. Its an amazing work out that kicks even some of the best athletes butts.

I play soccer though and do lots of suicides and 40s which seem to help. Walking backwards can help I guess, I do jogging backwards every now and then but for a good leg burner hats fast grab a bar bell and put some weight on it and put it on your shoulders as you do lunges (careful on the lunges tohugh and not to much weight because knees are precious things be kind to them) I also find that getting in some long distance running helped my sprints some. It sound silly but its helps your muscles in another way.

You see muscles activate when your brain sends electrical pulses to them. What long distance running will do is make the "highway" for your electrical signals faster and clearer. What are good training methods to do after school to be a faster short length sprinter?
I agree with the walking backwards...howabout you try and find a decent hill. Run up the hill a few times, walk down and itll really improve your quads and hamstrings.

Practice doing short intervals: run a 400 meter, rest for 2 minutes, then do another one. all at a pace slightly slower than your race pace. do at least 10 or up to 16 at a time. Also try doing 800 repeats with 5 minutes rest in between. Another good exercise is fartleks: go on a long run maybe 4 miles at a pretty slow pace, but every couple minutes speed up to almost a sprint for maybe 60 meters. then slow back down and as soon as your breathing is even again, do another sprint.

  • What does the Auxiliary battery on a 2006 Sprinter 3500 do?

The Blower fan works for about 10 minutes and then turns, of i think it might be the battery.

Thank you! What does the Auxiliary battery on a 2006 Sprinter 3500 do?
An auxiliary battery allows you to run more electrical items when at a lower speed. Generally it makes sense to upgrade the alternator as well. Sprinter can get optioned with up a 200amp alternator. Stock is 90, then 110, 145ish and then 200. If you plan to use the sprinter as say, a TV on site vehicle, or for other media relations then the extra power is more beneficial to run the equipment with the vehicle at idle speed rather than revving the engine to maintain a charge.

Blower fan is controlled by the blower motor resistor pack. It's just a small relay like item under the passenger side dash board. Generally when its on it's way out, you cannot use lower fan speed settings - high only.

What are the best type of running shoes for a sprinter?

I want to know what would be the best shoes for a sprinter. thanksWhat are the best type of running shoes for a sprinter?
    Food for thought:

Information about some running shoes and spikes for hardcore runners:

    Key for running shoes -

The better the shock absorption is the better the shoe is. Whenever possible, it is best to try them on before a purchase.

An ideal shoe will fit your foot like a slipper. Your running shoes are the key to staying injury free. Knowing how to use them will enhance your speed. You can wear any type of shoe you want for training in. But you should have a second pair of shoes just for racing in.

Oversize Trainers To Improve Your Speed -

The best type of trainer to wear is one that is either a half or full size too large for your feet. Buy a high quality cushion inset sole and place it in the shoe. This gives your feet added shock absorption protection. This could be a big help against Shine Splints. If one foot is longer than the other, buy the trainers based on the longest foot.

Except for hurdlers practicing their hurdle form, use this shoe for all of your running practices, including high speed sections. When you change shoes for races, you will find that your feet feel light and that your race time results are constantly on the speedy end of your speed range.

    Shoes For Racing In:

A racing shoe (flats or spikes) that properly fits your foot and used for race purpose only, will enhance your speed. These shoes are normally very light but do not support your feet like trainers. You can make many brands of racing shoes feel very comfortable for use without soaks by placing a thin, soft cushion, flat insole in it. Replace the insoles when they begin to show signs of wear or when they are flat in your impact area. They can be bought in some grocery stores. If you use arch supports, place it in your racing shoe too. If one foot is longer than the other, buy this pair of shoes based on the shortest foot. However, if the toes on the longer foot are knuckling up in the shoe, then the shoes are too short - get a longer pair.

    Hurdler shoe issue:

Shoes play a huge part of helping a hurdler be fast, especially in the short distance hurdles. This is not practical, but hurdlers need three pairs of track shoes. They need their proper foot fitting racing spikes, they need a pair of proper fitting running shoes for hurdle work practices only and, they need their oversize comfortable running shoes with extra cushion protection for all other running activities.

    Wearing Spikes To Train In:

There are times when using spikes in a training section is very important to the athlete. Sprinters, hurdlers, pole vaulters, javelin throwers; long, triple and, high jumpers should wear their spikes when trying to calibrate their steps and starting block position. Once the measurements have been established with your spikes on, take them off and put on your trainers. Use your trainers to find the location of your established starting points. The order of finding your points should be with spikes first and then with trainers, never the other way around. This is because trainers vary too much in size, shape and, length for the same size foot - change your trainers and you change the deminsion of your foot. For this group of people, knowing how to find your precise starting points with your racing shoes on, assures you a consistent range of high end results for your discipline.

What is the difference between the Freightliner Sprinter and the Mercedes Benz Sprinter?

I think the Freightliner has more options, but why would one get one over the other. They are from the same company but ones a "luxury brand"??What is the difference between the Freightliner Sprinter and the Mercedes Benz Sprinter?
As of 2005 (when I was a sprinter salesman in Illinois) Mercedes manufactured the Sprinter in Dusseldorf Germany. Daimler owned all of the companies that manufacture the vehicle. (dodge, freightliner, mercedes) Purchasing one over the other is like buying the Chrysler Aspen over the Dodge durango. It just comes down to trim packages and options.

How can I make myself a faster sprinter?

Even when I am in good shape, I am not very fast. I am thin, i have long legs. But how can I make myself quicker when I am sprinting? How can I make myself a faster sprinter?
    choose fast parents

    but run fast

    good rest

    run fast....maybe try distance running

GLHow can I make myself a faster sprinter?
Of course there are your every day wind sprints. For a real challange, purchace a running parachute. I hooks to you in a harness and provides resistance. How can I make myself a faster sprinter?

I have a dodge sprinter and it does not show what gear it is in?

On my dodge sprinter (1994) it does not display the gear it is in on the dashboard. it is a diesel automatic engine. I have checked the fuses and that does not seem to be the problem. it is as if the car does not know it is in park and will not try to start, as if you were trying to start your car form the drive position. the starter does not try to turn. if you could give me some ideas on possible problems that may be causing thin it would be great.I have a dodge sprinter and it does not show what gear it is in?
The neutral switch on those have a ground feed wire that runs to the starter relay, what could be happening is the relay has no ground therefore the starter won't engage at all and the comp system could cause the transmission gear indicator to either display every gear light to be lit all at once or none at all.

Here's a few tests you could do pop out the starter relay and check the relay sockets pins one pin should have a positive 12 volts another should have a solid ground signal. If you've got these two pins working as I've mentioned then try turning the key into the start position and another pin on the relays socket should now give you a positive 12 volts.

If when you try to start it without any starter relay in it and you've now 12 positive pins and a ground or negative pin try popping in another relay in its place and then starting the engine.Note you should find other relays with the exact same part number in the fuse box under the hood , you can switch a non vital relay with the starter relay , example fan relay , try it if its starts , be sure to replace the missing fan relay and not to run it unless you do.

There is a trick I use during this next test if it doesn't start then I take some wire not too thick maybe 18 gage or so peel it's end and wrap it around the pin of the relay that plugs into the relay socket pin that connects to the wire going to the starter and then be sure the wire isn't shorting out any other relay pins as you pop the relay in firmly. Now peel the other end of this wire and connect up 12 volt test probe to it or volt meter and when you turn the key to start the engine that probe should be lighting up.If probe lights up check relay again and then check the wire going to the starter from that relay.

You can use this wire trick for the tests mentioned before too just to double check.Basically one relay socket pin should have a steady ground and another pin gets a fused 12 volts so if no pin is live with a positive 12 volts , check the fuses closely.Again once you know these pins are live , when you turn the key the ignition feeds the relay power and if it's not doing this via a relay socket pin check the ignition fuses closely.

You can buy a handy test probe it tests both positive and negative current and this probe is perfect for what tests you need to perform, also some places sell service manuals like Haynes for about 20 bucks or so and some parts stores will print out free diagrams and starter relay , ignition , wiring info and diagrams.

There could be a bad ground going to the display or a short in the wiring causing the system not to display or to turn over but check the battery, all fuses and the charging system just in case.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way if you can get comp pin layout out and wiring info too that would help, bec a comp could be shut down due to a12 volt feed or bad fuse or bad wire or sensor , so try to get the system scanned if possible just in case any error codes exist.I have a dodge sprinter and it does not show what gear it is in?
if the neutral safety switch goes out on it ,it will do that ,but it wont make the lights on the dash not work, you need to try and see if it has lost a ground wire somewhere,it sounds like its lost a ground or the ignition switch has went bad on it,good luck on it.

Is it possible to be both a sprinter and a long distance/cross country runner?

I'm 13 and quite a good runner. I can run short distances pretty fast, but I've also got fairly good stamina. I've just been picked to do a cross-country competition, and i'm meant to be joining a running club which specializes in long distances, but I love sprinting because i just do. Is there any way I can maintain my short distance speed, yet be good at long distance as well?Is it possible to be both a sprinter and a long distance/cross country runner?
i am the same way. and i have many friends that do both cross country and track. i am 15 and i run varsity track and cross country. after cross country season, sprinting takes a week or so to get used to, but after that i jump right back into the sprinting mood. For me being a sprinter and long distance runner is great because they both benefit each other. During cross country, i sprint the last 800 meters and that usually gets me ahead of a ton of people. During track, i run the 4x400 and freshman year i didnt run xc, but this year after i did, the 400 got so much easier because i got endurance from xc. if you are confident in both areas, i say why not succeed in both!Is it possible to be both a sprinter and a long distance/cross country runner?
At your age (and I'd say all the way through high school as well) and your level of competition, yes, you can be good at both. The key is that you will have to train and practice for both. This means both long, endurance workouts, and short, repetitive sprint workouts (on different days).

You may find in a few years that once you and your competition mature physically, that you are more suited to one style of racing or the other. But for right now, work hard and enjoy the fact that you have the versatility to run whatever race distance you want to and be good at it.Is it possible to be both a sprinter and a long distance/cross country runner?
Not really, the training for the different distances hurts the other distance.

If you train to sprint you will not be able to run long distance well, and if you train for distance it will hurt your sprint speed.

You can be good at both at your age, but when you are older and performances get better you will not be able to do both.

What are good strenght exercises for a sprinter?

I currently just do the training right now. Includes plyometrics, drills, harness work, speed work and a few others. However, I do not do any leg strenghting exercises. Sit ups, press ups, plank, side plank, dorsal raises.. I'm ok for upper body but was wondering what is a good workout for the legs?

I had in mind squat thrusts, burpee's, squats, squat jumps or would it be better to get out a barbell and start squatting big weights? What are good strenght exercises for a sprinter?
    no heavy weights.

also try sprinting up hill, and then try running up hill backwards, if you never felt painfull legs befor you will doing that, your legs become realy strong runing backwards. just do it up hill for best performance. What are good strenght exercises for a sprinter?
Run up and down bleachers, that uses most of your leg muscles all at once. And down it uses your quads more. What are good strenght exercises for a sprinter?
Don't forget to stretch before and after your bouts.
No champion runners use heavy weights ever far less in squats. Use your own body weight for squats and do sets of 30 to 50. Also, do lunges, and mountain climbers. They are where you get in a push up position and then tuck your legs in. Thrust one leg out at a time and bring them in. These are killers. You will soon find out why you do not need weights. Your own body weight provides enough resistance.

How can I become a faster runner/ sprinter?

I play running back and linebacker for my high school team. I'm a freshman and the coaches are still analyzing us as players but in recent games I haven't gotten to play very much at running back ( I start on defense) and I feel it's because I'm not fast enough. So speed and agility ladder drills or exercises would be helpful and much appreciated. How can I become a faster runner/ sprinter?

  • What is the purpose of risers on sprinter spikes?

    Do they help that much?

How hard is it to get used to them? What is the purpose of risers on sprinter spikes?
The risers are there for traction like for long distance events like the 1600. I do both the 1600 and the 100. In the 100 I really don't even notice the risers and on the 1600 I definitely feel more traction than if I had just plain sprinting spikes with no risers. So ya they help. As for getting used to them i personally didn't think they were that hard to get used to, there just like my sprinting spikes but with more umpf. I love track and I think that I have a future in it. I hear the word Diet in college and I want to know what are thing that I can eat? What type of diets does a sprinter use to be in shape and not have fat?
Eat 5 meals a day, no I don't mean big meals, I mean like maybe have a bowl of cerial with milk as 1 meal, maybe a granola bar snack meal between breakfast and lunch, for lunch have a deli meat sandwhich, then have another snack between lunch and dinner maybe a 100 calorie pack, then for your last meal you want to have some good stuff, get meat, fruit, and vegetables, make it your choice, but don't eat too much of whatever it is you are eating for dinner, this works very well, it keeps you from being hungry, gives you the minerals your body needs to gain muscle, and it keeps your metabolism high so you won't put on so much weight, regardless you will still put on weight just not a lot.

  • What was the acceleration of each sprinter? What were their respective maximum speeds? ?

Setting a world record in a 100 m race, Maggie and Judy cross the finish line in a dead heat, both taking 10.0 s. Accelerating uniformly, Maggie took 2.00 s and Judy 2.60 s to attain maximum speed, which they maintained for the rest of the race. What was the acceleration of each sprinter? What were their respective maximum speeds? ?
Maggie accelerated at 5 and 5/9 meters per second per second.

Maggie has a maximum speed of 11 and 1/9 meters per second.

Judy accelerated at 4.42 meters per second per second.

Judy has a maximum speed of 11.49 meters per second.

The distance traveled is 1/2*A*t*t +(10-t)*A*t=100meters

substituting t=2 and t=2.6 gives a formula that can be solved for "A"

    V=A*t

substituting 2 and 2.6 for t and the values found above for A in this formula results in the maximum velocities achieved in the race.

How much distance work should a sprinter do?

I do sprints but I don't have good endurance. I run 100m and 200m mainly. how long of time or distance should I run. And how many days a week? How much distance work should a sprinter do?
If you are a sprinter then you should do speed endurance training which is different than the endurance training long distance runners do. You should run slightly over your sprint distances (say 120m and 250m) with very little rest, say six 120m with 2 minutes rest or four 250m with 3 minutes rest and then increasing the number of repeats.

For example this is a 200 workout I like: Take your best distance for 20 seconds, that is how far you can run in 20 seconds (you might want to calculate off your 200m time), add 1-5 seconds and then run repeats over that distance in the time plus the 1-5 seconds resting 3 times the time of the run. For example lets say you run a 25 second 200. In 20 seconds you would run 160 meters. You would run repeat 160's in 21 to 25 seconds taking 63 to 75 seconds rest.

How often you would work on speed endurance depends on what you do the rest of the week, pure speed training (shorter than race distance repeats, all out, total or near total recuperation) strength training like plyometrics, technical training, starts. At least once a week, perhaps 2 or 3 times, depends on what you need to be successful. Discuss this with your coach. How much distance work should a sprinter do?
Sprinters don't need too much endurance, so I think you should stick with intervals and road runs.

I suggest doing intervals of 400m, which is a lap.

Do 4-6 sets a day for 2 days a week.

Give yourself 2 days of break each week and for the other 3 days, do road runs.

Just run on the street or some kind of park for 25 minutes minimum.

I highly disrecommend running on the treadmill because first of all, you're not going anywhere and there's absolutely no fresh air or any hills.

Track and Field sprinter workouts to do at home?

Hi, I have recently started track and field for my final high school season. I want to go out with a bang. I started lifting more often: Squats, cleans, tricep dips, pull ups bench etc.

I want to know what kind of work outs i should be doing at home. Maybe push ups or sit ups? Any suggestions to help me become a stronger and faster sprinter? Thank you!

I run the 100, 200, 4x100, and 4x400.Track and Field sprinter workouts to do at home?
Basic calisthenics are something you can do at home when not running. Jumping jacks, sit ups, push ups, and squat thrusts help tremendously with explosiveness.Track and Field sprinter workouts to do at home?
As a runner in a club as well as high school, my coaches come up with the workouts. During track season the usual workouts for short distance is:

    - 15 minute warm-up run.

    - Stretching.

    - Drills. (You might already know some, but if not you can probably find them on google. They're marching, high knees, butt kicks, skipping, karaokes, straight legs).

    - Strides/Accelerations. Going fast for about 80m.

    - Workouts. They vary from doing many repetitions of a certain distance, like 8x200m, 10x100m, or more complex workouts like doing laps around the track and every 50m changing speeds from jog to run to sprint to run to jog, etc.

    - Once a week, we do an entire core routine, which consists of sit-ups in 6 positions, push-ups in 3 poistions, front, back and side planks with varying difficulty, like raising one leg and arm, slowly marching while holding your plank, etc.

Hope those are some good ideas.

What advice can you give an up and coming 100m sprinter?

I am currently at a 11.8 PB and my goal is to be at a 10.6 by the end of my senior year. I am a sophmore in high school as well. What advice can you give an up and coming 100m sprinter?
you have a good time, but nothing that will get you a good place at a sophmore level. But dont worry, with hard and repetitive workouts especially designed for sprinters ( legs, abdominal muscles, starting off blocks, and aneorobic endurance). Work on the blocks alot, you dont know how many people have sckrewed up their race due to bad starts, especially in the 100....its happened to me once :( . Ask your coach for advice on how to run your 100. thats also the time that i'm aiming for....Good Luck!

PS: Make sure you learn the RIGHT way to get off blocks.....ask your coach or other sprinters.......most track people are willing to help other people out, so just ask other sprinters for tips. try out for the 200..you might be better at that. What advice can you give an up and coming 100m sprinter?
11.8 is very gd .......well ur gonna have to put in a lot of commitment...lot of hours in and have to plan your diet very carefully.....when at the gym work on the antagonist muscle the quad....the will quicken your leg speed.....there are lots of small things you can do but at your level i would look to a ProfessionalWhat advice can you give an up and coming 100m sprinter?
to be honest 10.6 is a little bit of a big goal for you, running a 11.8. 11.8 is not bad at all, especially for a sophomore. heres what happend to me:

    9th: 11.9, 11.8ish

    10th: 11.4, 11.5

    11th: 11.3

my goal is 11.0 for the rest of my 11th grade year and 10.8 for senior yea.r obviously keep working, but once you get to love 11 and high ten theres not much room for improvement
i am 13 and doing high 11s low 12s and currently do running training 4 times a week i mostly work on core work as it helps me to stabilize myself while running and i sometimes have to work on keeping my knees up high enough

How does strength training helps a distance runner and a sprinter runner?

Be specific please. My legs are kinda develop already especially the calves, glutes and hamstring a little portion of quads and I do wonder why i am not that good in sprinting well in fact i am doing weighted lunges most of the time. So I'm here to ask this question. Be specific with the specific events please. How does strength training helps a distance runner and a sprinter runner?
For a sprinter, the force they can apply to the ground propels them forward faster, if properly trained it would also allow them to have a longer stride. It will not necessarily make someone who is not fast, fast. If over done it can actually make a sprinter slower. A world record holding sprinter in the 50's improved with strength training and so continued it to an extreme level and ran slower. A certain balance must be maintained because strength is not the only factor in running fast.

For a distance runner it is much less important and has more of a function of preventing injuries. Building muscle would work against a distance runner because it would be unnecessary weight to carry around during a race and it would be weight that divert blood and oxygen from the muscles that are necessary.

How can i become a faster sprinter?

Im a freshman in high school, so im gonna go for the varsity track team. On our modified team, i was the fastest, but im not sure how im gonna match up against the older sprinters. I do the 200m dash, and the 400. so i just need some tips to become faster. How can i become a faster sprinter?
Sprinting all down to power and how you can pump those legs with the fastest velocity towards the finish line. For this you need to work on your strength on your legs. I've been Sprinting 100-200m races for a while now at University and 1-2nd places are always my sitting ;)

Pace yourself. Time each and every running and average it out. Do a total of 15 sprints a day.

As for strength. Heavy squats at the weight room will pay off amazingly on the track = should be done 3 days a week. Keep track of all sprints and weight on the Squat. How can i become a faster sprinter?
Don't forget Deadlifts, Overhead Squats,Power Cleans %26amp; Snatches. Flexibility is very important too.

Keep your hands loose. Thumb should hit chest, thumbs should go behind your hip. Pump your arms as fast as you can, also. Keep your toes pointed forwards and your foot parallel to the ground.
    Pace yourself , time yourself

  • How long does it take for a world class sprinter to accelerate to his maximum velocity?

Is his acceleration constant? Roughly how many seconds does he take to accelerate to his maximum velocity and what will that velocity be?How long does it take for a world class sprinter to accelerate to his maximum velocity?

There's a breakdown you can use. It gives the 10m splits from the Korea olympics a few years back.

They hit there best splits 50-60 meters into the race.

They accelerate a lot at first, then it levels off pretty much after 25m.How long does it take for a world class sprinter to accelerate to his maximum velocity?
No, the acceleration is not constant. The maximum velocity is achieved in a 100-m dash after about 60-70 m of completion.

What is the best Iliopsoas strengthening workout for a sprinter?

I want to isolate the muscle because it is the weak link of my core group. My glutes, abs, back, and everything but the iliopsoas are strong. I used to use this machine (forget the name) in which you would get into and, laying on your stomach you would push one leg back at a time (weighted)... But I cannot remember the name of the machine, and my college doesn't have it anyway. Any suggestionsWhat is the best Iliopsoas strengthening workout for a sprinter?
Home stretching may include lying with the hips flat on the floor and then pushing up with the arms while the hips remain flat on the floor. There are hip abductor machines in the gym. Also use the exercise balls. You would want to place the ball under your hips and then extend your arms forward and legs outward simultaneously for a count of 8-12 while maintaining your balance.

What is the average qualifying time for a 200m sprinter?

I'm usually a long distance runner, but my coach was working with me and another runner. I know we're pretty good at running, but he wanted to get down some sprinting. We ran a 200m in 23 seconds, had a three minute break, and ran another 200m in 25 seconds. I originally had no idea if this was good or not, but I learned soon enough that it was pretty good. With these times and maybe a little improvement, would I qualify for regionals in the 200m? Or is that good enough? What is the average qualifying time for a 200m sprinter?
It really depends..On what grade you are in ...Im a freshman and i ran a 22.4 or somthing in the two hundred but a 23 is a pretty good time...in highschool track it can win some medals...
in high school a really good time is 21 , but if you run 22,23 , you can def win medals until u get 2 states and regional and stuff

How old are you? If your in highschool like me, I'd say thats a really good 200m time
the average time is about 30 seonds !!!!!What is the average qualifying time for a 200m sprinter?
my time was around 21.5 sec
I dont know what the qualifying standards for regionals are. It depends on the state you're in and probably the region too as to how the qualifying works for regionals (and then state).

Probably the top 16 I'm guessing of all racers, conditioned on the fact that there are limits to the number of entries schools can get in the event as well as limits to the number of events participants enter, which means you might be able to sneak in at like #17 or 18. One year the ladies 400m went to line 44 i think because of so many scratches. Good luck!
    I've always seen 21-25 seconds.

    20-22 seconds being the winner.

    Hope that helps. =)
23's are a good time, especially for someone accustomed to running distance. In order to be really competitive, you'll probably need to keep working to drop that time down in the mid to low 22's. Good luck.
That is a real good time if u say u ran the first one with 23 seconds with a lil work u can easily bring ur time down to a 21 keep it up.
i run track...i run the 2 %26amp; the 4.....my sister is older than me and has been running longer and shes great at it...a good time is between 20-25 seconds.

GOOD LUCK!What exercises should i do to become a faster sprinter?
there is only one type of exercise which all sprinters use to gain maximum speed and that is plyometric exercises

These exercises focus on explosive movements which help to develop the fast twitch muscle fibers which are necessary for improving speed.

before doing any plyometric exercies you should warm up because some of the exercises put too much strain on the muscles

    types of plyometric exercises are:

    sqauts

    bounding uphill

    standing long jump

    hurdling jumps

    box jumps

    single leg hopping

    tuck jumps

    bunny hops

some of these exercises are low, medium and high intensity, so make you do the ones that you feel comfortable

    good luck :D

Is it detrimental for a sprinter to use briefly use a hot tub the night before a race?

I've seen this discussed for distance athletes but never anything specific to sprinters. Is it detrimental for a sprinter to use briefly use a hot tub the night before a race?
A hot tub shouldn't have much effect the night before a race, unless you've worked out really hard that day (which you shouldn't have). Hot tubs/hot water is usually discouraged immediately after intense workouts because it can inflame muscles and make them sore, but after easy workouts or just recreationally a hot tub shouldn't cause any problems.

Most of the information about this is anecdotal and based on the experiences of athletes and coaches though, there hasn't been a whole lot of scientific research into it yet. Ask your coach his opinion on the subject and see what he thinks. Is it detrimental for a sprinter to use briefly use a hot tub the night before a race?
It's fine to use a hot tub before a race, there is no evidence for or against it, also no evidence that it will improve performance. Do not use heat after your race though only ice.Is it detrimental for a sprinter to use briefly use a hot tub the night before a race?
It won't make or break your race, but from what I've heard, it gets the lactic acid running through your body, mainly your legs, and that's not good at all. Try taking a relaxing...ice bath.
