Is it true if you do too much long distance running you would become a slow sprinter?

i ask this because im playing basketball this year, im a junior in high school, i plan on running two miles a day except on wednesdays and saturdays. will doing this make me a slow sprinter? also, what are some sprints that i can do to improve my speed? give any detail and info.Is it true if you do too much long distance running you would become a slow sprinter?
It may not make you a slow sprinter, but you will have extra stamina up and down the court. I know this from experience because I am a sprinter; even though I am good at sprinting up and down the court, I still wish I had the stamina to continue going back and fourth for a while. I don't have enough stamina to do so. I would figure you would have no problem switching over from distance to sprints, you may be slow at first but you will definitely be able to keep doing whatever you are doing at a good pace without getting tired. Some good sprint exercises are running up hills, walking down, and running up about 10-20 times, getting rest while walking the hill back down. Sprinting is all about short bursts of energy, and long rests. Go to your local track and run the straightaways, walk the curbs. We call them ins-and-outs. They are a great, yet easy way to train your sprinting legs.Is it true if you do too much long distance running you would become a slow sprinter?
2 miles isn't long distance for a runner it's probably considered a warm up. Running 2 miles should actually help your endurance in basketball since you need to run over 5 miles per game in a run and stop motion with sprinting and jogging. The best sprints are probably doing 50 meter or 100 meter sprints since you want to work the length of a basketball court with emphasize on hills sprints which will work your leg muscles. Good luck!Is it true if you do too much long distance running you would become a slow sprinter?
Apparently it is strongly dicouraged to run distance as a sprintre, you want to train your body to run fast for short distances not slower for longer distances.

A workout you could do could be Chinese Workouts: for 5 minutes sprint 20 seconds rest for 10, over and over. It kills lol

Time Trials, thats all i know of since I am long distance
no, i didn cross country last year, and i got faster. cuz it builds leg muscle. because even though your doing long distance running, you should still be working on speed for the final kick in the race
