im a sophmore i run distance in track 800m and mile, but i was wondering if i can still be a good sprinter as a distance runner because i usually race people in sprints outside of track. and do squats, leg extensions, help in sprinting?|||the 800 and mile are middle distance events, not distance events, and to be successful you need to have sprint speed.
The elite middle distance runners are very fast, not as fast as sprinters, but very fast for middle distance runners.
To run good middle distance events you must do speed work.|||I do the same thing as you. To me it seems like you have to be a straight natural and meant to sprint if you wanna do 200m and under. The 400m is your best bet because that relies on speed and your breathing. So yes you could be a good sprinter. It all depends on how fast you are.
