Does Cross Country make you a slower sprinter?

Before I started Cross Country I was pretty fast and a good long jumper. Now that the season is over and I have started training for track I have noticed my jumping distance has decreased and I have also become a slower sprinter. How do I gain back my speed?|||That...that's impossible. Even I am mindblown.|||I am a former cross country runner who started as a sprinter. The answer is yes - it can and does reduce both your jumping and your sprinting speed. The reason for this is the development of your "slow twitch" muscles versus "fast twitch". Long distance running uses slow twitch and the more you use those muscles the less developed your fast twitch muscles become.

To gain back your fast twitch muscle groups, you will need to do low repetition high weight exercises - mostly squats with a lot of weight (and not many reps). Get the power back in your legs and the sprinting and jumping will return...|||Well yea it does I did xc and I just high I have a 30 inch standing vertical without any drop step and at the end of the season I'm guessing I was posting a 26.5 inch vertical I couldn't even grab rim from a vertical but after two weeks I was back up there and I'm jumping higher cuz since xc ended I stopped all distance running I've just being doing a lot of sprints and jumping workouts|||Are you crazy? Im a skateboarder and cross country runner, and i have great hops. I am also doing track, and guess what? I made the 300 meter hurtles, lol. Your legs might be sore or tired if your REALLY feel this is what happened.|||no, you get slower by not doing speed..whether you're running XC or sitting around...it doesnt matter
