Can long distance running help make you a better sprinter?

My school has just started running track races. We just did the 100m and I added a whole second from last year. I was just wondering can long distance running help make you a better sprinter or does it have no affect? And is there any other training exercises to help you become a better sprinter?|||i ran track for several yrs and was a sprinter in the 400 and mile relay i joined x country and all of a sudden i was no longer a 400 sprinter i had to switch to the 800 and 1 mile so x country is not good for sprinters i was really upset i say run on your own if you want a more longer workout but stick to practicing your sprints everyday|||Generally speaking, no. It's good for your overall health and aerobic capacity, but sprinting is anaerobic. Sprinters focus on what they do - short, fast intervals.|||no effect rlly...long distance you need endurance and sprinting you need leg strength
