Can i be good at running long distances and be a fast sprinter?

Im a long distance runner, im pretty damn good too. but i want to be a faster sprinter, and build my anaerobic ability. i know long distance runners and sprinters have a different build and have different legs. i was wondering if i could be a fast sprinter w/o losing any on my long distance

-thnks|||i think you can

you work completly different muscles so you cant train for both, you have to choose which you want to focus on

but i get 28s in the 200 and 12 flats in the 32 so i can sprint decently and im a distance runner so its possible if your athletic and have it natually but as far as going to state in both itd be hard to be your best at both at the same time|||Its strength vs endurance for your legs, i feel like when the back part of your thigh gets bigger and stronger, it works against you in long distance. Sprinting is all about the calves and quads, long distance really its more of your butt and shins/lower leg. But its not like you'll get a lot slower one way or the other, remember at the end of the day its all the same, running.|||If you train for both you should be good.

I know a guy who nationals for the High School 1600 and 3200 and he was also on his team's 4x400 and they went to state. Most likely if you're fast at sprinting you should concentrate on the 400 because your background of distance with speed gives you a great chance to compete in the 400.|||well im long distance, and i am the best girl on the team for xc. but not for track...only good at the 3200. and i have long/lean muscles not bulky with power....so yeah i think they are way diffrent builds. but that dosnt mean you cant be a MIDDLE distance runner. its like a balance of both|||ohhhhhh yessss my dear. me and one of my good friends both run long D but also do sprints. but its whatever is cut out for you.
