I'm a sprinter and I'm starting year round sprinting after track season ends. I'm planning on running a 10k in about 5 months. I run 4-5 miles on the weekends when I don't have sprinting practice. Will training for long distance 10k affect my sprinting training? What will happen? Thanks!!!|||I think it might make you slower. First, the running on the weekends may not give your body enough rest. Second, slow twitch muscle mass is completely worthless for sprinters. You would be adding extra slow twitch muscle mass hence weight which could slow you down even further. I have a friend who runs marathons and even my totally out of shape friends could beat this guy in a 100m sprint.
Also look at the best in the world. A sprinter in the Olympics couldn't even make it to time trials in the the medium range events. Same things goes for the distance runners. The reason is because sprinting and distance are completely different sports. It's like choosing to play the one sport all year or two sports. The time you use on training for distance running is time wasted for sprinting.|||FRANKLY~~Whatever it is.....
U will still need to 'sprint' in yr last laps towards the Finish-Line to be that Champ! Right......?
Anyway~A Coach-friend has pass me these to pass it on to U...
Hopeully~U'll get some Infos/Tips/Advice+Help here....
