What the ideal body fat for a 400m sprinter? If I am 5'11", considering this ideal fat and my muscle mass, what should my ideal weight be, also?|||Well, if you want someone with REAL experience, you might want to listen to me, considering I can actually run a time that people don't laugh at (47.xx). I'm 5'11" as well, and I weigh 170 lbs., although when I ran the 47 I weighed 160-165 lbs. I haven't run yet at 170 because I tore my hamstring. My body fat is 8%, and all the other athletes who are on my team (D1 university) are all around 5-15%, which is perfectly fine. You could go to a nutriotionist, and they can measure all these things for you and tell you if you need to eat more of one kind of food or get more of certain nutrients, etc. Hope this helps, if you need more advice on the 400m, let me know. (davel2430@yahoo.com)|||to the dave guy im glad u can run a 47 in college. considering that i ran the 55 as a freshman that hasnt even been training for the 400 but for the 800. So i would gladly race u when i am in college.

|||Speaking as an old guy, I find it odd how many people today are worried about "ideal" or "perfect" weight! Optimum weight or body composition is an individual thing; and there are no "perfect" people.
I have known literally dozens of world class 400 runners; from that experience I would have to say that the optimum for most top performers is is pretty low in terms of body fat and that to get where they are you have to get a lot of bang for your buck in terms of power for the amount of muscle mass that you carry, too.
The bottom line is that, if you are following a year round training schedule for the 400, body composition is going to be way down on the list of things you have to think about. Think about good nutrition instead.|||i am also 5'11" and i ran the 400 last year for the JV team for conference i ran a 55 second 400 so i have experience. It really doesnt matter that much because i have like 12 percent body fat and i weigh 160 pounds. SO i would say somewhere around that ballpark.
